Diana's Throne
The Fabulous Throne and Footstool of Diana Dors
I'm also thrilled to own the fabulous throne and footstool that once belonged to Diana Dors! This has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I can now say that dreams do come true!
This exquisite throne was crafted by furniture designer Victor Sheppard, who was a close friend of Diana and her husband, actor Alan Lake. Sadly, Victor passed away in 2022.
Victor Sheppard was renowned for his work with the popular John Lewis department store, and I believe he designed much of the furniture in Orchard Manor. His distinctive style is evident in several pieces I’ve seen in photographs.
Alan commissioned Victor to create this unique chair for Diana's 50th birthday in 1981. The chair was prominently placed in the Pool Room at Orchard Manor in Sunningdale, Ascot.
The chair gained fame through its appearances in magazine articles and on the cover of Diana’s book, "Diana Dors’ A-Z of Men," published in 1984. It was also a central feature at many parties held at Orchard Manor. Notably, during her 50th birthday celebration in 1981, Diana was filmed sitting on this very chair by Russell Harty for his show "Russell Harty at Home." The episode, titled "At Home with Dors," featured guests such as pop star Adam Ant, comedian Tom O'Connor, and swimmer Duncan Goodhew.
